PG Program

The Mt. Mansfield PG program is designed for athletes whose goal is to compete on an NCAA Division 1 ski team. For these athletes, an additional year of focused training and physical maturation, plus an academic program tailored to their competition schedule, can be the difference maker in getting accepted at their top choice school. Our program is designed to maximize time on snow with high volume, high intensity training, and prepare students for college with a series of seminars integrated into their athletic schedule.

Our alumni compete for NCAA institutions nationwide, and include US Ski Team Members, National Champions, and Olympians.

Consideration for admission to the program will be given to athletes, male or female, who have completed high school, who have the ambition and are reasonably qualified to race on a collegiate ski team. We prefer that students have applied, been accepted, and deferred from at least one college or university prior to enrolling in our PG program.

On-snow training takes place in our world class race facilities at Stowe Mountain Resort. These venues, particularly Main Street, are well known as some of the best in the country, and provide the challenge needed for our PGs’ athletic development. Strength and conditioning are also a major focus of our athletic program, supported by our full-time strength and conditioning coach.

Our PG program is designed to prepare  student athletes for independent living in college and beyond. To that end, PGs live off campus, in group housing with regular supervision from staff, and are expected to be self-sufficient for most of their daily activities. A meal plan is available through the Academy for lunches, and athletes will be assisted in preparing breakfasts and dinners with support in nutrition and meal preparation.

The academic portion of the PG program is delivered as a series of brief, intensive seminars designed to keep students academically engaged as they prepare to enter college. From topics like sports psychology and physiology, to career-related life skills and leadership, these seminars will pique our students’ curiosity in a variety of subjects not traditionally taught in high school.

In order to get the most out of our program, it is essential for PGs to be committed to a fitness program, and time on snow in the off-season. PGs have access to our strength and conditioning coach and facilities throughout the summer, and are required to arrive in Stowe on October 1st to begin regular strength and conditioning sessions. We also require our PGs to participate in at least one MMSC sponsored camp during the summer, in June or August. Additionally, our PGs will travel with the Club to Colorado, and should consider an extended trip with the possibility of early season racing.
